Brand Guidelines
How to use the Yellow File logo, colours and type. Follow these and the brand looks the same everywhere it appears.
The logo
The logo is the yellow folder and the name, set together. The primary version is for dark backgrounds: a Primary Yellow folder and a White name on Off-Black. Use the files we supply. Never redraw or retype it.
Clear space
Keep an empty margin round the logo, on every side, equal to the height of the capital “Y” in the name. No text, edge or picture goes inside it. The smallest size is 20 pixels tall on screen.
Colour palette
Four colours. Yellow is the accent, used sparingly; the rest of the brand is dark and calm.
Primary Yellow
HEX #FACC15
RGB 250, 204, 21The mark, and the one main action on a screen. Never a background for long text.
Off-Black
HEX #0E0E10
RGB 14, 14, 16The website's background, and the logo's home.
Dark Grey
HEX #1A1A1C
RGB 26, 26, 28The editor's background, and raised panels on the website.
White
HEX #FFFFFF
RGB 255, 255, 255Headlines and body text on dark backgrounds.
Text on Primary Yellow is always Off-Black, never White: White on yellow fails contrast. Yellow is never used for text on a white background.
What not to do
Don't stretch or squash it
Scale the logo evenly. Its width and height always change together.
Don't recolor it
The folder is always Primary Yellow. The name is White on dark, Off-Black on light.
Don't add shadows or glows
No drop shadows, outer glows or outlines. The logo sits flat.
Don't rotate it
The logo always sits level.
Don't place it on a busy background
On a photo or pattern, put a dark overlay behind it first, so the logo stays clear.
Typography
One typeface: Inter. Bold for headlines, regular for reading. Nothing smaller than 11 pixels.
Change exactly what you select.
Inter Bold · headlines
The rest of the photo stays exactly as it was, pixel for pixel.
Inter Regular · body text
Writing the name
Write Yellow File: two words, both capitalised. In headings, buttons and body copy it carries no ™ symbol. The trademark symbol appears only in the copyright line and on our legal pages.
